• BRANDING: Your resume, portfolio and website should have a uniform look and feel. Remember, if you can brand yourself, the employer will feel that you can also brand for them.
  • KEEP IT CLEAN: Remove any inappropriate work that could cause an employer to reject you. Remember your audience, and what they want to see from a prospective candidate.        Example: overly sexual, overly religious or overly political work.
  • KEEP IT OPEN: Make your portfolio clean, open and professional looking – remove all clutter. Make sure its easy to navigate and text is readable.
  • DEVELOP NEW CONTENT: As a journalist and content developer, you should always be telling a story. Especially after you graduate!  Show potential employers that you are living in the journalism industry by developing new content every month.  Develop 2 – 4 stories per month.
  • PROOFREAD: If your website has grammatical errors, employers will think you’ll make the same errors developing content for their organization.  Take your time and do it right.
